J. E. Harrison Middle School Gifted Enrichment Services
Mission Statement
The mission of the gifted program at Harrison Middle School is to provide meaningful experiences for highly able students, both in and out of the classroom, that are purposeful and rigorous. Through a balance of acceleration and enrichment, the critical thinking skills of gifted learners are developed and challenged. |
AttendanceStudents have a selected day of the week schedule to minimize disruption of their school day. It is the expectation that the student is responsible for any classwork missed during their gifted time. The students have been instructed that if a project, test, or assembly is occurring during their gifted time, that is the priority and the student will remain with the class.

Competitions/eventsAll enrichment students are encouraged to attend or participate in a competition or event throughout the school year pertaining to either their strongest academic subject or a personal interest/talent. These opportunities help strengthen their public speaking skills, problem solving abilities, and builds peer relationships with teamwork.

CourseworkA variety of coursework is involved with the gifted services. This includes project-based lessons, additional literature readings, a research unit of interest, and various mini lessons to aid in the acceleration of learning. While most of this work is meant to be completed in the gifted classroom, sometimes the student may need to complete various steps on their own time.
